The Park on Calder owner appears in municipal court for noise complaints

Since September 2023 neighbors have voiced concerns over the noise, while owner Deondre Moore says he has a right to run his business.

BEAUMONT, Texas —

The Park on Calder is facing another situation as the owner went in front of the city municipal court for two noise complaint violations.

The complaints come from residents who live in the nearby neighborhood. They say the restaurant and bar disturbs the peace with loud music.

Since September 2023 neighbors have voiced concerns over the noise, while owner Deondre Moore says he has a right to run his business.

"I don't care what's going on on the inside of his business, my problem is what's coming outside of his business and entering my home and that's noise," said Roy Malveaux, a nearby resident.

Nearly six months after its grand opening, neighbors' complaints over the noise at The Park on Calder continue.

Malveaux says that his Ring doorbell footage, taken last month at his home near the bar, captured the music which he describes as a nuisance to the neighborhood.

"I've tried time and time again asking to turn it down. He refuses. And not only that after police show up, he turns it back up," said Malveaux.

Moore claims that he has listened to the residents' requests.

"[The police] came out this past Sunday. They witnessed us turning it down they went about their way and we had a good night," he said.

Moore showed up to the Beaumont Municipal Court Monday morning for two citations issued over noise complaints in 2023.

"I don't really plan to ever address the noise complaints. There's always going to be what I consider a hater. Somebody who can't understand that we are a successful, thriving, black-owned business," Moore said.

According to Moore, he's continuing to work with Beaumont Police and is also utilizing decibel readers to make sure the noise stays under control.

"The decibel readers we have we don't have one high hanging up but we keep them in our offices," he said.

12News asked if he plans to add a covering to the outdoor patio to cut down on noise. Moore responded no.

"That's a lot of resources and this is supposed to be an indoor/outdoor one-of-a-kind concept. It will always stay outdoors. That's what a park is. That's what our park is," Moore told 12News.

While Moore plans to keep up business as usual, neighbors say they're unsure of what to do next.

"The city is going to have to make a determination as to how they're going to deal with the nuisance, the noise," Malveaux said.

Moore tells 12News The Park on Calder has not received any citations for noise this year.
