The 2022 Mayor’s race in Port Arthur will be decided in a runoff election on June 11, 2022.
Incumbent Thurman Bartie, who received 47% of the vote, is facing Floyd Batiste, who received 26% of the vote in the city’s municipal election in early May 2022. The race went to a runoff because when more than two candidates are in a race one must receive more than 50% of the total vote to be declared a winner.
Bartie is a Port Arthur native and has been mayor since 2019. He describes himself as a product of Port Arthur schools.
Batiste is a new face on the ballot and describes himself as a public servant and a social worker, with a background in workforce and economic development. He says his reason for running is because of a lack of leadership.
