PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Investigators have released the name of a 46-year-old woman who was hit and killed early Wednesday in Port Arthur.
Police said Rachel Derese was pronounced dead at the scene after a vehicle headed westbound hit her in the 3900 block of Texas Highway 73. It happened around 4:20 a.m.
The west bound lanes of Texas Highway 73 were closed for several hours while officers investigated.
The highway reopened just before 8:45 a.m. according to a tweet from TxDOT.

From a Port Arthur Police Department news release:
On 8/19/20 at approximately 4:20 AM, Officers with the Port Arthur Police Department responded to the 3900 block of SH 73, in reference to an auto-pedestrian accident. Investigation revealed that a female was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on the highway.
The female who was identified as 46-year-old, Rachel Derese, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Marc DeRouen.
