Driver flees after woman struck, killed along U.S. Hwy 69 late Saturday night in Port Arthur

Port Arthur Police said the driver is still on the run. No description of the vehicle was released.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A woman died in a hit-and-run accident on Highway 69 in Port Arthur late Saturday night. 

The accident happened at 9:58 p.m. August 15 in the 8800 block of Memorial Boulevard near the FM 365 exit, Port Arthur Police Sgt. Jonathan Green said in a news release. Officers at the scene said the woman was trying to cross the highway when she was hit by a car, but the driver fled the scene without stopping.

The woman was 38 years old and a Port Arthur resident, police said. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name will not be released until family members have been notified. 

Port Arthur Police's Criminal Investigations Division and Advanced Accident Team is still investigating the crash. 

No description of the suspect's car has been released as of 1 p.m. Sunday.
