Some still calling for keeping students home today in protest of Beaumont ISD stadium name change

Since the vote last week some on social media have called for parents to keep their kids out of school today as part of a "sick-out" in protest of the name change.

BEAUMONT — A Beaumont community activist took to social media Sunday evening continuing a call echoed by some other Beaumont parents to keep their children out of school today in protest of the school board's decision last week to change the name of the district's stadium.

The board voted overwhelmingly during last Thursday's regularly scheduled meeting to change the name from the Beaumont ISD Carrol A. "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center to the Beaumont Independent School District Memorial Stadium. Six members of the board of managers voted yes, one abstained.

Geary Senigaur, Jr., spent about 20 minutes in a public Facebook live video Sunday evening urging those who were able to keep their children home from school in protest of the name change.
