Evadale community on edge following a string of burglaries

More than a dozen properties along FM 1131 have had money and expensive items stolen.

EVADALE, Texas — People in Evadale are outraged following a string of burglaries on properties along FM 1131.

Thieves have taken items such as, cash, guns and car batteries, along with other expensive items.

Jasper County Sheriff's Department is investigating these burglaries. So far more than a dozen people have filed police reports.

For Tina Tibbs and Chelsea Hoke, it's more than just money these thieves are taking.

"I have had a very hard time with my two youngest kids. They are just really concerned that these people are going to come back," said Chelsea Hoke.

Tina Tibbs owns a pet grooming shop out of her home. She is getting close to moving into her new shop, which is located by her home. She is worried the thieves will steal something which will delay her move.

In the community of a little more than 1,000 people, some feel where they once were safe, they are now having to look out for criminal activity.
