2024 Annual Action Plan set to make impact on Beaumont

The 2024 Annual Action Plan goes into effect on July 1, with the city of Beaumont having nearly $1.9 million to spend in the underserved community.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The 2024 Annual Action Plan is being funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Annual Action Plan goes into effect on July 1, with the city of Beaumont having nearly $1.9 million to spend in the underserved community.

People in need of help will be able to reach out to any of the 31 non-profits getting grant funding.

"With our public services CDBG grant that nonprofits apply for that is literally thousands of people that are impacted," said Community Development Block Grant Manager, Jes Prince.

This year the city of Beaumont has chosen 31 non-profits to get HUD Community Development Block Grant Funding.

"They in turn offer services to low to moderate income households in our community," said Prince.

Which is part of the cities 2024 Annual Action Plan.

"So we get funds for our CDBG grant, and funds for our home grant. We do a consolidated budget of those programs and then we build an annual action plan for HUD that outlines what we will do with that funding," said Prince.

CDBG funds help prevent homelessness.

"For example Family Services, Some Other Place, are getting funding. We're funding the Southeast Texas Food Bank, Nutrition and Service for Seniors, the Market to Hope which is Catholic Charities, food pantry," Prince said.

This year, more non-profits than ever before are applying.

"We have 9 new agencies this year that have never received funding," said Prince.

Agencies like Some Other Place, which provides meals to the homeless.

HUD Home Grant Funding will help demolish dilapidated homes.

"That goes towards maintaining you know the integrity of safe neighborhoods," Prince said.

It also goes towards restoring 16 aging homes.

"I'm excited that we put a little more money into the minor repair program, because when we have such a demonstrated need in the community. When you have a waitlist that's two years long worth of funding, you really want to address that," said Prince.

If you are a non-profit who would like to apply for grant funding or a homeowner in need of minor repairs, the application process for the 2024 Annual Action Plan will open towards the end of the year.
