A collision between two cars in Vidor leaves one dead

According to Orange County JP Pct. 2 Judge Chad Jenkins, a 30-year-old woman, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

VIDOR, Texas — The Department of Public Safety and Vidor Police responded to a fatal two car wreck at Elizabeth on Main in Vidor this evening between a Tahoe and a SUV.

According to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll, VPD received a call about a reckless driver in a maroon Tahoe traveling Northbound in the 1400 block of N. Main at about 6:40 p.m.

Just minutes after, the caller relayed that the out of control  had just struck another car head on.

According to a press release from VPD, both drivers were unconscious when officers arrived. Then one officer noticed that one of the drivers was not breathing.

The officers immediately removed the woman from the car and began doing life sustaining medical care, unfortunately their efforts were not successful.     

According to Orange County JP Pct. 2 Judge Chad Jenkins, 30-year-old Samantha Townsend of Orange, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jenkins says that an autopsy has been ordered.

An investigation by the Vidor PD Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit shows that the Tahoe was speeding down the road when it suddenly crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the other car.

The driver of the Tahoe was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in serious condition. 

A child was in the other car secured in a safety seat, they were also transported Christus St. Elizabeth in non-life-threatening condition.   

VPD is still investigating what led to the crash.
