2 injured after Sunday morning two-vehicle crash in Port Arthur

The two people injured were taken to a Beaumont-area hospital. One is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating a two-vehicle crash that left two people injured.

The crash occurred on State Highway 347 in Port Arthur on Sunday, Nov. 28 morning. A preliminary investigation suggests that a 2010 Lincoln SUV was travelling southbound approaching mile marker 458 around 8 a.m.

A 2018 Buick SUV was travelling northbound approaching the Lincoln. The driver of the Lincoln allegedly veered into the northbound lane and struck the Buick head on, according to a TxDPS release.

The driver of the Lincoln, 48-year-old Joel Espinosa, was taken to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas in Beaumont to be treated for life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Buick, 52-year-old Brenda Posey, was taken to the same hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

From a Texas Department of Transportation release: 

JEFFERSON COUNTY- The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a two-vehicle crash on state Highway 347 in Port Arthur that occurred on Sunday, November 28.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8 a.m., a 2010 Lincoln SUV was traveling southbound approaching mile marker 458. The second vehicle, a 2018 Buick SUV, was traveling northbound approaching the Lincoln. The driver of the Lincoln veered into the northbound lane and struck the Buick head-on.  Both vehicles came to rest a short distance away from the area of impact.

The driver of the Lincoln was identified as Joel Espinosa, 48, from Port Arthur. Espinosa was transported to Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Buick was identified as Brenda Posey, 52, from Port Arthur. Posey was transported to Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont with non-life-threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
