Groves man dies after motorcycle hits back of 18-wheeler Sunday

The 27-year-old man was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth where he was later pronounced dead.

GROVES, Texas — Groves Police are investigating after a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a motorcycle left a 27-year-old Groves man dead. 

It happened Sunday around 2 p.m., at 39th Street and Pure Atlantic Road (Highway 366) in Groves. An 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on Highway 366 when it turned right onto 39th street. 

Skylar James Finn, 27, of Groves, was riding a motorcycle behind the 18-wheeler and hit the trailer. At this time, it is unknown if speed was a factor in the crash. 

Finn was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where he was later pronounced dead.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victim’s family and friends and they deal with this loss,” Groves Police Department Detective Chris Robin told 12News. 

Justice of the Peace Ben Collins has ordered an autopsy. 

Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted the police department, Lt. Chuck Havard told 12News.
