Opening Day for baseball in Southeast Texas produces no-hitter, walk-off victories

Out at Lamar University at the legendary Vincent-Beck Stadium, Port Neches-Groves opened their season against the West Brook Bruins.

BEAUMONT, Texas — It's Opening Day for Southeast Texas with two ballgames taking place in the 409.

Beginning at Lamar University at the legendary Vincent-Beck Stadium, Port Neches-Groves opened their season against the West Brook Bruins.

Early in the first inning, PNG Starting Pitcher Mason Wuenschel had some trouble finding his touch while West Brook took advantage.

Back-to-back-to-back walks lead to a sacrifice fly to center field by Anderson.

However, it was Thompson who became the hero in this one.

After PNG notched two runs on the board to make it 2-1 Indians, the bottom of the 7th saw the Bruins drive in two runs of their own with one of them coming off the bat of Thompson to give West Brook an Opening Day walk-off victory.

Over in Nederland, the Bulldogs slapped a six-run 2nd inning to help them score a victory over the Silsbee Tigers.

Bulldogs ace pitcher and McNeese commit Brady Corcoran went four strong innings pitched before he was pulled.

Corcoran didn't allow a run nor a hit in the four innings of work that he had.

Later in the 5th inning Corcoran decided to help his own lead by smashing a double off of the left field wall, scoring Jezi Serrano from second base.

The bullpen for the Dawgs came in and shut the door as they would hold onto the no-hitter as the game was called in the 5th inning due to a run rule.
