Wreck triggers outage for nearly 600 Entergy customers in Beaumont for several hours early Thursday

​By 6:30 a.m. all but about five customer's power had been restored according to Entergy.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A car wreck early Thursday morning triggered a power outage for nearly 600 Entergy customers for more than four hours but many likely slept through most of it.

The wreck involving an overturned car along the Interstate 10 frontage road near Rusk knocked out power in the area around College to Laurel along the interstate.

Entergy reported, at about 3:20 a.m., on its online outage map that 581 Entergy customers in Beaumont were affected by the outage which began just after 2 a.m., according to Entergy's online outage map.

More than four hours later, by 6:30 a.m., all but about five customer's power had been restored according to the outage map.

At least one utility pole was knocked down during the wreck and crews were still working to finish repairs at 8 a.m. with the northbound frontage road closed between Cedar and Laurel Streets
