Three men rescued from flood waters Wednesday along FM 1416 near Big Cow Creek in Newton County

Both rescues happened in the area where FM 1416 crosses Big Cow Creek just east of texas Highway 87.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Three men in Newton County were rescued Wednesday in two separate incidents in floodwaters along FM 1416.

Both rescues happened in the area where FM 1416 crosses Big Cow Creek just east of Texas Highway 87 according to Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby.

After an 18-wheeler was swept off the flooded roadway, the driver was rescued by a helicopter according to Newton County Precinct Four Constable Howie Wonders.

In another incident a man was walking along the flooded roadway when he was swept away. Another man, who was using a boat to rescue the pedestrian, also had to be rescued after he was thrown from his boat Wonders told 12News. 

Both men were found hanging onto trees and rescued by Task Force One members he said.

"I want to thank our Emergency Management Coordinator Chief Mark McCall and all other Newton County and assisting agencies for doing a great job," Wonders told 12News by phone on Thursday morning.
