Texas ranks third most internet obsessed state in report

Seventy-seven percent of Americans use the internet on a daily basis.

Texas joins Oregon and New Jersey in the most internet-obsessed states in the US, taking third place.

Seventy-seven percent of Americans use the internet on a daily basis, according to a report from AT&T Savings and All Home Connections, an authorized AT&T retailer.

The states least obsessed with the internet were Alaska, South Dakota and Idaho. Most of the states with lower internet usage in the report tended to be scenic and rural.

Texas’ eastern neighbor Louisiana ranked number 29.

The report suggests Oregon and Washington’s growing millennial population may contribute to their higher internet usage.

Hawaii coming in at number 45 seemed unusual at first due to the state being frequently featured on Instagram photos, however, analysists said this is likely more tourists versus actual residents.

Five different factors helped determine the rankings, including how likely a household is to use the internet heavily, how much time spent distracted while driving, growth in online spending by state from 2016 to 2017, searches for “phone addiction” and “internet addiction” over the last year and percentage of the state’s population over 13 with an Instagram account in 2016.

States that received a higher score using those factors were more likely to be heavy internet users, researchers said.

All Home Connections said that this study is more of an informal ranking and not meant to provide clinical or professional insights.
