STATE BOUND| Lumberton Girls Soccer beat Vidor 1-0

The Lumberton Lady Raiders are headed to the UIL State Championship.

LUMBERTON, Texas — The Lumberton Lady Raiders are headed to the UIL State Championship. Lumberton beat the Vidor Lady Pirates in the 4A regional championship Saturday afternoon in Katy.

This was the lady Raiders closest game yet, as they have dominated most of the playoffs.

The 1-0 final is a bit misleading, as the lady Raiders pushed the ball at a breakneck pace for the majority of the game while dominating the time of possession

However, Vidor continued to to remain stingy on defense.

"We just wanted to play our game and spread the field," said Lumberton coach, Jason Hopson, "Good offense is your best defense."

That offense finally broke through when Brooke Martin iced the game as she scored the only goal with a dazzling corner kick.

The Lady Raiders have yet to allow even a single goal against them since the playoffs began, lending credence to coach Hopson's defensive philosophy.

Meanwhile, the boys team has just kicked off their match in the 4A regional championship. 12News sports reporter Holton Peppers is in Katy watching the match and will provide an update tonight.
