A new VA clinic has been announced at Southeast Texas Veterans 4 Veterans town hall Tuesday night

The location will be determined and announced at some point this year.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas Veterans 4 Veterans (V4V) held a town hall meeting tonight the MCM Elegante Hotel in Beaumont.

Eric Bode with Beaumont VA Hospital announced a new clinic. The location will be determined and announced at some point this year.

"Fairly confident that it will be done and stuff if they keep their mind to it. If they don't, they should," said Charles Richer, a 10-year army veteran.

Richer believes Southeast Texans veterans deserve more.

"They need improvement, of course. They're still trying. It's a large system with a lot of people," he said.

Additionally, a permanent shuttle service was announced for Beaumont VA. It is unknown if the shuttle will add necessary wheelchair-accessible features.

According to Richer, the turnout to the town hall was unfortunately underwhelming.

"It wasn't too much of a turnout. But as it grows and more people learn about it and get aboard... it'll awaken a lot of old soldiers," he said.

V4V President Damian Bennett was also disappointed by the turnout.

"I was hoping it would be a much larger turnout than it was. I wish we had more of our local elected officials and congressional reps and aides here," Bennett said.

12News reached out to the VA representatives to get some more details about the proposed clinic but they declined an interview.

There were two speakers and two toxic exposure screenings for veterans who have been exposed to burn pits and other hazmat.

Medical screenings and vaccinations were available for all eligible veterans who attended.

If you or anyone you know is struggling, the V4V want you to know there is help available. You can call the Suicide Hotline at 800-937-8097. You can also call or text 988.
