Port Arthur Police Association welcomes new police chief

Police union's statement endorses new chief as 'fair' and 'knowledgeable.'

PORT ARTHUR — The Port Arthur Police Association expressed support of the newly named police chief Tim Duriso in a Facebook post Wednesday morning.

Several members of the police union know and worked with Duriso when he previously worked for the police department and the DEA, the association said.

“We know him to be a fair, knowledgeable and professional leader,” the association said in the post. “Chief Duriso brings many years of law enforcement experience back to the City of Port Arthur.”

“We look forward to working with him to better serve [our] citizens.”

The Port Arthur Police Association was vocal in condemning the previous chief, Patrick Melvin, including organizing a no-confidence vote last year after Tropical Storm Harvey.
