One Port Arthur resident took his concerns about loud noise coming from a business to City Council

The M&N Repairs and Automotive shop owner says they don't run equipment or vehicles overnight.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Residents in Port Arthur  along 2nd Ave. neighborhood say that loud noises coming from M&N Repairs and Automotive are keeping them up at night.

One neighbor took his concerns to City Council.

Jersson Herrera played video of the noises coming from M&N Repairs and Automotive for council members.

Herrera says that his block used to be quiet up until a few years ago.

"It's been years dealing with this matter," said Herrera. "They work late, make a lot of noise 3 o' clock, 1 o'clock, there's no rules."

Herrera and his neighbors say frequent episodes of loud noises from mechanical equipment happen at all times of the day and night.

"One night, they were working and just revving the motors as loud as possible," said resident Mindy Walters. "And I asked them if they would stop revving the truck, it's 3 o'clock in the morning."

The business, just a few doors down, does repairs on 18-wheelers and dump trucks. Owner Miguel Lopez says his team only work during business hours.

"We are starting to work after 7:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at night," said Lopez. "Very rarely do we sometimes work till 7:30 or 8 o' clock at night."

Mr. Lopez says he has never run equipment overnight and neighbors did not make any complaints directly to him.

"Here we never have vehicles running overnight or at 1, 2, 3 o'clock in the morning, how they are saying," he said. "That just isn't true."

Due to increasing feelings of frustration, Herrera went to City Council on Tuesday where he shared his opinions with the city.

"So, all my neighbors have been complaining, that's why I went to the city to bring this matter to them, to see what they are gonna do about it, and find a solution for this matter," he said.

The council said that the city attorney would get with him and review the city's noise ordinance.

"I hope the city can help us come to an agreement," said Herrera.

Mr. Lopez says that he is willing to cooperate with the city.

"If the city tells me the hours of operation, I will cooperate," he said.
