BEAUMONT, Texas — Firefighters from three volunteer departments were unable to save a Newton County home from flames over the weekend.

The Newton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the house fire just before 11:45 p.m. Saturday night in the 5100 block of County Road 4002 according to a Facebook post from the fire department.

Firefighters from the Trout Creek and Bon Wier Volunteer Fire Departments assisted in fighting the fire.

Seven fire trucks supported firefighters as they poured more than 50,000 gallons of water on the fire in an effort to control it.

Firefighters believe the fire, which started in the attic of the home, was caused by lightning according to the post.

The fire spread quickly through the entire house, which was a total loss.

Firefighters were slowed by subflooring in the attic along with additional walls in the house added during additions to the home which made the fire hard to stop the post said.

The man and his daughter who owned the home do not have insurance and both suffer from medical issues according to the post.

Newton police officers and Newton County deputies also assisted at the scene.
