Silsbee man charged with intox manslaughter in wreck that killed 2 motorcyclists, 12-year-old girl, injured 7-year-old boy passengers

The girl and the boy were passengers on the two motorcycles.

SILSBEE, Texas — A 50-year-old Silsbee man is behind bars after troopers say he struck two motorcycles, killing a 39-year-old, Spurger man, a 37-year-old Warren man and an 11-year-old girl and seriously injuring a 7-year-old boy after a Friday evening wreck near Silsbee.

Brenon Proulx, 50, of Silsbee, was arrested on intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault charges according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Proulx was driving a 2006 Saturn Ion west along FM 327 at about 6:45 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, near the 748 mile marker about a mile from the Silsbee city limits according to Texas DPS Troopers.

The Saturn then drove into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2005 and a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle that were headed east according to troopers.

The rider of a 2005 Harley Davidson, James Means, 39, of Spurger, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Hardin County Justice of the Peace according to the news release.

A 12-year-old girl, who was a passenger on the 2005 Harley Davidson, as well as Allen Wesenberg, 37, of Warren, who was operating the the 2015 Harley Davidson, were both taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital where they later died according to troopers.

A 7-year-old boy who was a passenger on the 2005 Harley operated by Means was also taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont. The child is expected to be okay. DPS says the 7-year-old is not in a life threatening situation anymore. His condition has improved.

Proulx is currently in Hardin County Jail and has a $160,000 bond.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck.
