Man wanted on Pennsylvania felony charges shoots, kills self during Jefferson County traffic stop

A man shot himself in the head during a traffic top along westbound Interstate ten west of Beaumont Thursday evening.

A man shot himself in the head during a traffic top along westbound Interstate ten west of Beaumont Thursday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies made a traffic stop at mile marker 839 along Interstate 10 about four miles west of Smith Road.according Marcus McLellan of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the car was a 25 year-old man from Pennsylvania who deputies found later to be wanted on several felony charges out of New Castle, PA.

The deputy had the man exit the vehicle and as the deputy was attempting to identify him he ran from the deputy and back to his own car according to McLellan.

The man then grabbed a gun from the car and shot himself inside the car in front of the deputy.

The man was transported to Christus St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was pronounced dead.
