How to safely surrender pets, stray animals in Beaumont

If you are an owner or find a stray and want to surrender them, The Humane Society along with Beaumont Animal Care gave a run down of what to do

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Humane Society of Southeast Texas is sharing how to safely surrender animals within the City of Beaumont.

After an incident where kittens were left in a bucket outside Beaumont Animal Care in the chilly morning air on Wednesday, the nonprofit is asking Beaumont residents to safely surrender strays and other animals instead of dumping them.

If you are an owner and want to surrender your pets, The Humane Society along with Beaumont Animal Care gave a run down of what to do.

  • Only City of Beaumont residents can surrender pets to Beaumont Animal Care.
  • A photo ID is required to surrender an owned animal.
  • Beaumont Animal Care does not accept owner-surrendered animals on Saturday.
  • Beaumont Animal Care does not accept owner-surrendered animals after 4:30 pm.
  • All fees must be paid in order for Beaumont residents to surrender an animal.
  • To surrender a pet, dogs must be leashed and cats must be in a carrier or secured ventilated container.

If you find a stray and want to surrender it Beaumont Animal Care and Humane Society share these rules to follow.

  • Only stray animals found within Beaumont city limits may be surrendered to Beaumont Animal Care.
  • Beaumont Animal Care does not accept stray surrenders on Saturday. 
  • Beaumont Animal Care does not accept stray surrenders after 4:30 pm.
  • You must have an ID with a Beaumont address within the city limits to surrender a stray in person.
  • You can call 311 to report a stray animal that needs to be picked up.

Anyone can apply to surrender a pet or stray animal with the Humane Society of Southeast Texas regardless of their location. Their surrender application can be found at their website here.
