Man rescued from inside of garbage truck Monday morning in Austin

The incident happened at approximately 3:30 a.m. on West Sixth and Colorado streets.

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin man has been rescued after he was dumped into the back of a garbage truck early Monday morning.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday, an Austin-area waste collector looked at his camera and noticed a man inside his truck.

The man had apparently fallen asleep inside of a recycling bin, which was picked up on West Sixth and Colorado streets in Downtown Austin.

The waste collector was able to help the man climb out of the dumpster and onto the top of the truck, and firefighters with the Austin Fire Department helped him get back onto the ground.

The man was assessed by the Austin-Travis County EMS medics for minor injuries and was then transported to a nearby hospital.

No additional information is available at this time.
