Port Neches man dies after being struck by driver who missed exit on Highway 69 police say

Police say the man was struck by a driver who was speeding north on the highway and missed their exit.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 24-year-old Port Neches man died after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon along the U.S. Highway 69 service road near the Jefferson County jail.

Beaumont Police responded to the scene of the incident in front of Church On the Rock in Beaumont at 6 p.m. Monday in the 6300 Block of Highway 69 south near the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

Dalton Drake, 24, of Port Neches, died after being struck by a driver police say was was speeding north on the highway and missed their exit. 

He then drove through the grass and lost control, according to a Beaumont Police Department news release.

That is when the driver hit Drake. who was walking on the service road, according to BPD.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drake's family has been notified, according to police.

The driver was arrested on unrelated warrants. The investigation on the fatality continues and charges are expected, according to BPD.
