ORANGE, Texas — Orange County deputies are investigating after a worker died Friday morning at the Golden Triangle Polymers construction site in Orange County.
Orange County Sheriff's Office is working with OSHA investigators to determine exactly what occurred leading up to this worker's death. They are still interviewing witnesses and taking statements.
Emergency crews were sent to the Golden Triangle Polymers construction site off Texas Highway 87 near the Orange County Airport at about 10 a.m. according to Capt. Joey Jacobs of the Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.
A contract worker has died at the construction site according to Jacobs. Chevron Phillips Chemical Company also confirmed that a contractor had died due to being injured at the site.
"We express our deepest sympathies to their family and friends during this difficult time," the company said in a statement.
The worker's identity will not be released until their immediate family has been notified.
Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton pronounced the worker deceased.
No other information is available at this time.
The project is a joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical and Qatar Energy. Chevron Phillips holds a 51% share of the plant according to file stories.
The plant, which will produce Marlex polyethylene, is expected to begin operating in 2026.
Golden Triangle Polymers is "expected to contribute $50 billion in residual economic impacts for the community" over the next 20 years, according a file story.
