BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police have released the names of a toddler and his young mother after the two were found dead at a Beaumont park Saturday evening.

Police described the deaths as a murder-suicide and said they had already been looking for the woman and her 1-year-old son as a critical missing persons case.

A Houston man called police at about 2:55 p.m. and told them that Briana Monroe, 26, along with their 1-year-old son, Giavon August, were missing according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

The man also reached out to her family and they were unable to get in touch with her police said.

Police treated the case as a critical missing person case and while investigators searched and gathered information the family told them they had found Monroe and the child in her 2019 Volkswagen Jetta at Perlstein Park at 800 Landis Dr. the release said.

Monroe’s body was found in the driver’s seat and the body of the toddler, who had recently had his first birthday, was found in the backseat, Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr. told 12News.

Monroe and the toddler were from Beaumont Collins said.

Both the family and police had tracked her phone to an area around the Beaumont Municipal Airport according to Collins.
