A 62-year-old Beaumont man is indicted for first-degree murder after police say he killed a man with his bare hands in the city’s north end.

A Jefferson County Grand Jury handed up the one-count indictment this week after hearing evidence police say shows Robert Lewis strangled George Erwin to death during an argument in August.

According to 12News file stories, Erwin was at Lewis' apartment in the 2800 block of Pine Street on August 11. A disagreement between the two turned violent. Police say Lewis later admitted to killing Erwin during the dispute.
An autopsy later showed that Erwin died from asphyxia due to manual strangulation.

Jail records on Wednesday show Lewis remains held on a $250,000 bond and a mental health hold.
