'Incredible animal' | A Southeast Texas wildlife rescue sanctuary will be starring in a TV show about catching gators

A new show, "Texas Gator Savers" follows Gary Saurage and his team at Gator Country across Southeast Texas as they do what they do best.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A wildlife rescue sanctuary in Beaumont is going to be back in the spotlight. Gator Country is no stranger to television.

A new show, "Texas Gator Savers" follows Gary Saurage and his team of gator lovers across Southeast Texas as they do what they do best.

The show promises an inside look with the team as they save alligators that have wondered out of the wild and into neighborhoods.

The series will have 10 episodes and Saurage says he couldn't be more thrilled.

"I look at them like a dinosaur. They're the last dinosaur left!" he said.

Gators are Saurage's life. He lives and breathes them.

"I love to watch them,  I love to feed them, the American alligator, to me, is just an incredible animal," Saurage said.

This is the second gator TV show that Saurage has been on. Back in 2010 he was on a series called "Gator 911" where Saurage and his team would rescue gators from unusual places.

The producer for Gator 911 thought it was time for Saurage and Gator Country to re-enter the spotlight.

"When we did the show on Country Music Television, it was just simply all about catching alligators," Saurage said. "This new show… it's going to take you through a walk of our whole life. So it catches the entire gambit of Gator Country,"

The team filmed all across Southeast Texas this summer.

"If you watch this show, especially being a resident of Southeast Texas, you're going to know where a lot of this is," said Saurage.

Eddie Hanhort, a Gator Country employee, tells 12News that he can't wait to see the finished product.

"It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed every second of it. Being able to catch alligators in front of cameras," he said.

Hanhort has worked at Gator Country for the past seven months. Starring in a TV show doing what he loves is like a dream come true.

"I mean what better can you ask? And this TV show is going to go five seasons deep, so you'll see a lot of me, hopefully," said Hanhort.

The entire Gator Country family couldn't be more excited to showcase what they do in Southeast Texas on the global stage.

"We're going to be catching alligators under houses, in swimming pools, in culverts, next to schools," said Saurage.

If you love alligators "Texas Gator Savers" is the show for you.

"This is our second time. Over the edge excited! 'Texas Gator Savers' is gonna be around quite a while," Saurage said.

If you want to catch the season premiere, titled "Death Roll" it will air Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 7 p.m. Central on the EarthxTV channel.
