5-year-old boy's hotdog, lemonade stand was big hit in Vidor community Saturday

"He says he had a lot of fun and wants to try again next month."

VIDOR, Texas — Hotdogs sold like hot cakes Saturday at a new popular stand in Vidor. The stand's mini owner can't wait to serve the community again.

With a little help from his parents and a lot of love from the community, 5-year-old Jack Ratcliff ran a very successful business.

It all began when the young boy overheard a conversation about lemonade stands. The conversation sparked his curiosity.

"He wanted to know more about them, and how he could make some money himself so that he could buy a TV for his bedroom," Zoe Ratcliff, Jack Ratcliff's mom, said.

Jack Ratcliff's parents used the moment to teach their son a valuable lesson. They said he could set up a hotdog stand or sell lemonade, but any money he raised would also be used to buy supplies for the stand.

"So that he understands how this works before doing it," Zoe Ratcliff said.

Jack Ratcliff set up a stand and sold hotdogs, chips, and lemonade. Before setting up the stand, his parents advertised on a Facebook page called Vidor Talk for two days.

"He ended up gaining about 1,000 different reactions and comments in total on our posts after the whole event," Zoe Ratcliff said.

The 5-year-old sold out of hotdogs in one hour. The mini businessman can't wait to use his new-found skills again soon.

"Our little town was so supportive," Zoe Ratcliff said. "He says he had a lot of fun and wants to try again next month. We’ll just say he earned enough for his TV."

Getting to wear a suit during the event only made it that much sweeter for Jack Ratcliff.

"He loves wearing his suits and was looking for a reason to wear it," Zoe Ratcliff said.
