Tyler County man now facing murder charge in shooting death of Warren man

The Warren man, who was shot in the head, died in a Houston hospital two days after the shooting.

TYLER, Texas — A 33-year-old Tyler County man has now been charged with murder for the death of a 35-year-old Woodville man who died days after being shot in the head.

Cody Knight, 33, of Town Bluff, was initially charged with aggravated assault in the shooting of Earnest Williams, 35, of Woodville, last Thursday, April 18, 2024, according to a news release from the Tyler County Sheriff's Office.

Williams, who was shot in the head, died two days later in a Houston hospital on April, 20, 2024, the release said.

Crime scene evidence and witness statements led investigators to issue a warrant for Knight who was arrested early the next morning, on April 19, 2024, at his Town Bluff home according to the sheriff's office.

He was taken to the Tyer County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and his bond was set at $500,000, but after Williams died he was charged with murder and his bond was then set at $1,000,000 the release said.

While executing a search warrant at Knight's home deputies found a .22 caliber rifle and seized it as evidence.

Deputies were sent to the scene of the shooting at a home on County Road 4770, south of Warren, at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday night, April 18, 2024, 

When they arrived they found Williams suffering from a head wound.
