Beaumont man wanted as 'person of interest' in fatal shooting arrested on unrelated warrants in Alabama, police still seeking another

Beaumont Police are still looking for an 18-year-old man as a "person of interest" in the fatal shooting of a teen.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are now searching for one Beaumont man as a "person of interest" in connection with the Friday night shooting death of 17-year-old man after two others were found.

Melvin Jerome Watson, 63, of Beaumont, was arrested Thursday by U.S. Marshals in Bay Minette, Alabama, according to Beaumont Police.

Detectives plan to speak to Watson, who was arrested on five active warrants unrelated to the murder case, once he is brought back to Jefferson County police said.

Officers are still looking for Latrevion Roberts, 18, to speak to him about the murder of Louis Mitchell, 17, last week.

Previously police were looking for another person of interest, but he turned himself in Wednesday evening. He spoke to detectives and was taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility where he is being held on Harris County warrant.

Beaumont officers were sent to a home in the 1000 block of Campus St just before 11 p.m. where they found Louis Mitchell, 17, suffering from a gunshot wound on the porch, according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

After Beaumont EMS medics arrived they pronounced Mitchell dead at the scene police said.

Detectives initially began searching for Melvin Jerome Watson, 63, of Beaumont, as a "person of interest" in connection with the fatal shooting but on Wednesday morning police announced they were also looking for two more "persons of interest."

Police warn that anyone helping them avoid authorities could be charged with harboring a fugitive and ask that anyone who knows where they are call police at (409) 832-1234 or Crime Stoppers at (409) 833-8477.

All three men currently have outstanding warrants on charges unrelated to Mitchell's death.

Watson is wanted on five felony warrants for possession of a controlled substance. Parker has an active Harris County warrant for evading arrest and Roberts has one for resisting arrest according to police.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
