BEAUMONT, Texas — A 25-year-old Beaumont man has been in arrested in connection with the fatal Saturday night shooting of a 23-year-old Beaumont man through a window at an apartment complex in Beaumont's west end.
Beaumont Police arrested Troy Cheek, 25, of Beaumont, late Saturday night following the fatal shooting at West End Crossing apartments. Police have identified Aaron Robert, 23, of Beaumont, as the man that was found fatally shot in a female resident's apartment at the complex, according to a news release from police.
Police say Cheek targeted Robert who was at the apartment of Cheek's ex-girlfriend.
Cheek was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility early Sunday morning on a murder charge, according to jail records.
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Naomi Doyle raised Cheek's bond from $75,000 to $850,000.
Officers were sent to the West End Crossing apartment complex at 6550 Phelan Blvd at about 10:45 pm. Saturday night after a person was reported to have been shot according to Beaumont Police spokesperson, officer Haley Morrow.
When officers arrived they found Robert's body in an apartment at the complex Morrow told 12News.
Because witnesses at the scene were able to provide "real-time" information quickly to officers and due to "recent reports" police were able to identify Cheek as a possible suspect. They were able to detain him as he returned to his apartment according to the release.
Detectives arrived and learned that Robert, who was inside a woman's apartment, was struck by bullet that came through a window.
After conducting interviews, detectives arrested Cheek in connection with the murder of Robert the release said.
Police credited information from witnesses on the scene as being instrumental in making a quick arrest in the case.
Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers Morrow said.
