BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont Police Department have arrested a suspect in the murder of Ricky Yates Jr., 30, of Beaumont.
A murder warrant was issued by Judge Ben Collins on January 17, 2024 for Leroy Harris, 42, of Beaumont man. His bond is set at $1 million. BPD's Special Assignment Unit located Harris and brought him to the station to speak with investigators, according to BPD's Carol Riley.
Investigators are still looking for Terrance Moore, 17, of Beaumont. A warrant for Moore was issued Friday, January 12, 2024 and his bond has been pre-set at $ 1 million.
On December 3, 2023 police were sent to a home in the 3900 block of Bayou Rd on Sunday night, Dec. 3, 2023, for a report of shots being fired and found Yates' body when they got there.
Around 9:06 p.m., while officers were still on scene of the homicide, police received a call of two vehicles being abandoned and burned near Concord and Treadway.
Detectives believe the two vehicles were involved in the homicide. One vehicle was a 2018 Kia Optima that had been reported stolen earlier in the day. The second vehicle was a 2001 Chevy Suburban.
It is also believed that the motive for the homicide was robbery.
Detectives previously asked anyone in the area of the 3900 block of Bayou and Concord and Treadway to check surveillance video on Dec. 3, 2023 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. around Bayou and between 8:30 p.m. 9:15 p.m. around Concord & Treadway for any footage that could help the investigation.
