Shots fired call leads to discovery of 30-year-old Beaumont man's body in home

Officers were sent at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 3900 block of Bayou Rd for a shots fired call.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man found dead in a Beaumont home Sunday night.

Officers were sent, at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, to a home in the 3900 block of Bayou Rd, a few blocks south of Phelan Blvd and South 23rd St, for a shots fired call according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

When officers arrived at the home they found the front door to the home was open and discovered the body of Ricky Yates, Jr., 30, of Beaumont, according to police.

He appeared to have been fatally shot police said.

There is currently no suspect in custody, but police believe he was killed by someone he knew.

Detectives are continuing to gather information from the crime scene according to the release.

Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. has ordered an autopsy in the case.
