Amanda Lewis gets eight year sentence

After two hours of deliberating, a jury decided Amanda Lewis will serve eight years in prison for driving under the influence of prescription medication and killing 11-year-old

After two hours of deliberating, a jury decided Amanda Lewis will serve eight years in prison for driving under the influence of prescription medication and killing 11-year-old Katie Grubbs.

Lewis still awaits trial for the death of Katie's sister, Cristin Grubbs.

Lewis was immediately put into handcuffs and escorted out of the courtroom once the jury gave their decision, but not before the parents of Katie and Cristin Grubbs spoke to her about their loss.

Sandy Nugent and Grant Grubbs told their daughters' killer what they'll miss most about their girls.

"Oh, I miss them everyday. Just getting up, the hugs, talking to them, their voices, the laughter," says Nugent.

"I know I'm going to miss seeing them reach their goals," says Grubbs.

A year and three days since the wreck that killed Katie and Cristin Grubbs, the girls father told Lewis in a strong voice, the only biological family he knows was taken away when she drove under the influence of prescription drugs.

"I was adopted, and really and truly those were the only two people I could actually see myself in. So that's pretty hard," says Grubbs.

Most of the courtroom was in tears while the parents spoke to Lewis. Lewis cried as well, and was lead away immediately in shackles to the Orange County Jail where she will begin to serve her sentence.

"What occurred was a result of doctor's medication, and she took it. It was obviously more than she should have been taking and caused the death of these two children. She feels horrible," says Lewis' attorney, Paul Fukuda.

A mother herself, Lewis begged for probation for the intoxication manslaughter charge for her kids' sake.

However, Nugent has no sympathy.

"Amanda's going to get out one day, and she's going to have everything we don't have. And they'll be able to go on with their life."

Nugent told Lewis she forgives her but won't forget the tragedy. The girls father feels differently.

"I'm a compassionate person. But with that said, until she does her time I'm not going to forgive her," says Grubbs.

Lewis will serve at least half of her eight year sentence before she is eligible for parole.
