BEAUMONT, Texas — Tia Johnson is a Daybreak and Midday anchor at 12News in Beaumont, Tx, specializing in news and features.

She joined the 12News team in October 2023.

Johnson is a true Texan who was born and raised in Houston and then attended Prairie View A&M University.

She started her career in Lufkin at KTRE and then left the Lonestar State for WBAY in Green Bay, WI and then WDAF in Kansas City, MO. While a reporter in Green Bay, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association honored her with a 2nd place award for "online personality."

At FOX4 WDAF in Kansas City, Johnson worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor and tackled several impactful stories, including an in-depth look at an apartment complex that drew the attention of a congressman and city leaders.

After spending five years away from her home state, Johnson is thrilled to trade in her snow boots for some cowgirl boots as she returns to her beloved Texas.

Johnson is an active member of The National Association of Black Journalists, NABJ, and embraces any opportunity to support diversity and inclusion in journalism. She loves to mentor younger journalists as well as kids and teens.

Outside the newsroom, she likes to spend her spare time reading, exploring new restaurants, cherishing moments with family, and volunteering.
