BEAUMONT, Texas — Ginny Sweeney is the news director at 12News.

She moved home to Southeast Texas to join the team in August 2021 after leading the investigative unit at KAKE in Wichita, Kansas as executive producer.

Sweeney is a Beaumont native who graduated from West Brook High School in 1998. She then earned her bachelor's degree in radio-television broadcasting at Sam Houston State University.

Sweeney worked in promotions at Fox Sports Midwest as well as worked as a magazine developer for the City of St. Louis.

She spent 10 years at KPRC in Houston working in the marketing and news departments in various jobs starting as a part-time editor. She went on to win a Lonestar Emmy in promotions and worked as an investigative producer/editor there.

Before leaving KAKE in Kansas, she was part of a 2-year push by her investigative team to get a law changed in the state of Kansas regarding suspended driver's licenses.

She now lives in Southeast Texas with her two children who keep her occupied and travel regularly with her. She says the TSA agents are regularly impressed with her kid skills in their lines.

She also loves cooking and gardening.

Her cat, Roxy, has lived in four states now after being uprooted from the Caldwood neighborhood where she was found.
