Brenda Matute

BEAUMONT, Texas — Brenda Matute is an evening anchor at 12News.

She joined the team in August 2022.

Matute was born and raised in Houston and in 2016 earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism with a minor in political science from the University of Houston.

Before joining 12News she worked as a producer and then a reporter at KIDY in West Texas as well a reporter at KZTV in Corpus Christi before becoming a morning anchor at a KVEO in Harlingen.

Some of the big stories Matute is proud to have worked on are pieces in Corpus Christi on a resolution to animal cruelty and one on the first major spreader of COVID-19 at a meat plant.

While in Harlingen she anchored for President Trump's visit to the border in the Rio Grande Valley.

In 2018 she covered major flooding along the Llano River in West Texas where several people went missing.

When she is not working Matute, who's a book-worm, loves to read. She also enjoys jogging, visiting the gym and cooking. She says she's an "amateur chef."

She is also a chocolate addict and continues to grow her shoe collection which is currently at 68 pairs.
