The Texas Department of Transportation plans to widen U.S. 69

Bordages says that he takes Highway 69 almost daily to get to work and believes the new project will help ease rush hour traffic.

BEAUMONT — The Texas Department of Transportation's upcoming project will widen U.S. 69 from four lanes to six lanes.

"I advocate more lanes," said Joe Bordages, a Beaumont resident.

Bordages says that he takes Highway 69 almost daily to get to work and believes the new project will help ease rush hour traffic.

"I try to avoid that anytime during rush hour."

A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation says that the $50,000,000 project will add intermittent merging lanes and remove the U.S. 69 northbound exit ramp to Delaware street.

The project will relocate the ramps at Chinn and Tram Road and overpass bridges will be widened.

The three year long project is expected to begin late 2018.
