Cardinal Drive closed for several hours after car hits bicyclist Friday night

BEAUMONT, Texas — Southbound Cardinal Drive was shut down before 4th Street after a fatal auto pedestrian accident in Beaumont Friday night. 

Darrell Henderson, 44, was pronounced dead by Beaumont EMS at the scene at 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 24. 

A car was in the left lane traveling southbound in the 3700 block of West Cardinal Drive when Henderson went onto the roadway on a bicycle and the car hit him, Officer Haley Morrow said in a news release. 

Traffic was detoured at the Fannett Road exit after the accident at 11:04 p.m., Beaumont Police said.

All lanes reopened around 1:46 a.m. Saturday, May 25, Beaumont Police said in a tweet. 

Beaumont Police are still investigating the incident, Morrow said.
