A Colmesneil man indicted earlier this year in a January 18, 2014 double-homicide that happened outside of Mount Carmel Baptist Church near Colmesneil, has been found incompetent to stand trial.
Lloyd Paul Westfall, 56, is charged with "engaging in organized criminal activity-capital murder." He was given a psychological evaluation following his March 10 arrest in the shooting deaths of his former son-in-law Nathan Maddox, 34, and Nathan's 30-year-old wife, Krystal Maddox.
A Tyler County judge Thursday ruled that he is not mentally capable of assisting in his defense.
The judge ordered that Westfall be taken to an East Texas mental health facility where he will be tested periodically for competency.
Westfall is one of four family members charged in the crime. According to 12News file stories, A Tyler County grand jury in March handed up indictments against Kristen Westfall, her parents Lloyd and Letha Westfall, and Kristen's brother Cameron Westfall, charging them with engaging in organized criminal activities.
The shootings happened after a supervised visitation with Nathan's 5-year-old daughter, Madison.
Letha Westfall and her husband Lloyd Paul Westfall are the parents of Nathan's ex-wife, and Madison's mother, Kristen Westfall.
The shootings are believed by law enforcement to have been motivated by Nathan and Krystal Maddox's legal battle with the Westfall family for custody of Nathan's daughter
