Following Wednesday morning's storms, tornado, nearly all Southeast Texas Entergy customers' power restored

BEAUMONT, Texas — Entergy is reporting that power to the majority of its customers who lost it following the storms that passed through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning has now been restored.

The storms and strong winds were responsible for the widespread outages across the utility's service area, according to a news release from Entergy.

At one point Wednesday morning about 26,000 Entergy customers were without power according to the company.

By about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, only 369 Entergy customers remained without power with 185 still affected in Jefferson County.

Here's a county by county breakdown...

  • Hardin County: 75
  • Jefferson County: 185 
  • Liberty County: 4 
  • Orange County: 24
  • Tyler County: 81

The majority of the remaining outages in Jefferson County are in the area where an EF-2 tornado touched down around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Wednesday morning's tornado packed wind speeds of up to 120 mph according to the weather service and caused significant damage over several blocks.

The tornado heavily damaged several homes and a church as well as downing trees in the area.

A home on 11th St. in Port Arthur appeared to have been destroyed.

Heavy damage was also reported a block away in the 1900 block of Thomas in Port Arthur.

At 5:23 a.m. the weather service issued a tornado warning for Jefferson County until 5:45 a.m.

At 5:44 a.m. the tornado was extended to 6:15 a.m. and specifically mentioned Port Arthur, Groves and  Port Neches.
