'They too are considered heroes' | Newton County K-9 deputy receives a bulletproof vest from Florida charity

NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — A Newton County K-9 deputy received a bulletproof vest from a Florida Charity. 

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says in a Facebook post that K-9 Bruce received a Kevlar Level ll Bulletproof Vest as a donation from "Protect the Paws, A K-9 Cause," a nonprofit charity based in Miami, Florida. 

"I have always felt that the K-9 are an invaluable part of law enforcement and we are grateful for their devotion and assistance.  They too are considered heroes and they have protected their handlers and, in fact, dedicate their lives to protecting our communities," Burby said in the post. "We extend our sincere thanks to Protect The Paws for their generous donation."
