'If you're sensitive it's the wrong line of work to be in' | Mayor Roy West takes his roast in stride

The halls of the MCM Elegante Hotel echoed with laughter as friends, family and community leaders came together to poke fun at Mayor West.

BEAUMONT, Texas — It was a night of friendly ribbing at the Rotary Club's third annual celebrity roast, and for the first time Mayor Roy sat in the hot seat.

The halls of the MCM Elegante Hotel echoed with laughter as friends, family and community leaders came together to poke fun at Mayor West.

Mayer West got to choose who all would take the stage to roast him, a list which included BISD Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen, Lamar university President Dr. Jamie Taylor, and Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick.

While there was some jokes at West's expense by the roasters, they also shared their admiration for the Beaumont Mayor.

Mayor West said that it was all in good fun and that he had no problem being the butt of the joke.

"I'm perfectly comfortable with it. As a public official you kind of set yourself up for that. If you're sensitive it's the wrong line of work to be in and to gather with all these people just warms my heart," Mayor West told 12News.

Mayor West chose to give a portion of tonight's proceeds to the Harvest House, which helps children who are victims of sex trafficking.

The rest of the money funds the rotary club's service projects.
