Motiva gives $900,000 to Port Arthur area schools

Motiva Enterprises gave to PAISD and to Lamar State College-Port Arthur to continue with recovery from Harvey.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Motiva Enterprises LLC presented $900,000 to Port Arthur area schools Tuesday to help bolster education as the schools continue to recover from Harvey. 

Port Arthur Independent School District is receiving $650,000 through the Port Arthur Education Foundation which will go toward safety and security measures.

The money will help fund safety and security cameras, two new school buses with seats belts and campus maintenance vehicles. 

The donation for PAISD was presented at Woodrow Wilson Early College Campus on Lakeshore Drive. 

"We just thoroughly thank Motiva for the generous donation of $650,000 for safety and security," says PAISD superintendent Dr. Mark Porterie. "Obviously, that is the number one conversation across the nation and we definitely want all of our schools and departments to be safe

Motiva also presented a donation of $250,000 to Lamar State College Lamar State College – Port Arthur inside the Sheila McCarthy Umphrey Center.

That donation will help fund a new processing unit that will provide process technology students a hands-on environment to enhance their skills. 

Since Harvey, Motiva has donated more than $7 million to the city of Port Arthur.
