Police investigate death of Beaumont man found at front entrance of Beaumont CVB building Monday morning

Currently police are not treating the death as a homicide.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are investigating the discovery of a Beaumont man's body on the front steps of the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau in downtown Beaumont Monday morning.

Officers were sent to the CVB at 505 Willow St. after the body of Chaz Brashier, 39, of Beaumont, was found sitting up against the building according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

Detectives are investigating Brashier's death and Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr. has ordered an autopsy.

Previously police said they believed the man was a transient but he is not according to Collins.

Brashier was found without his ID or his phone which his family says may have led to confusion about where he was from according to his first cousin, Shannon Seanez.

"Our family is in complete shock over his death," Seanez told 12News on Tuesday.

Police are currently not treating his death as a homicide.

Brashier has no connection to the CVB, police said.

Police have not released any other information.
