Orangefield ISD managing during the school year

Orangefield Independent School District classes have resumed this Monday after Harvey caused flooded damaged to its high school and elementary school campus.

We are glad to be back, “said Stephen Patterson, the Superintendent for Orangefield. “We were a month late on getting started."

According to the district, 50 percent of its student’s homes were damaged. It resulted in more than 200 no-shows on Monday’s first day of classes.

"We gained about 40 to 50 of those back yesterday,” said Patterson. “Enrollment is very much in line with what it was the same time last year.”

The elementary school isn’t operational. Therefore, students will have to use the junior high campus, while 7th and 8th graders will go to the high school.

"Our students are glad to be back and the parents are happy their back,” said Patterson.

Patterson says students have missed many school days and is hoping an adjustment will be made for this year's STARR testing.
