Forecast: Fall weather making a comeback, cold front arrives Friday evening

The latest forecast from the KVUE Storm Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — One last warm and muggy night with this stretch of summer-like weather before the next cold front pushes through.

Friday afternoon is still expected to reach the 80s, but our first cold front will likely move through late in the day, bringing some relief heading into the weekend.

Behind this front, a subtle cooldown is on the way for Saturday with highs in the upper 70s and lower humidity. This will be short-lived though as we quickly go back to the mid to upper 80s on Sunday with the return of a southerly breeze.

A much stronger cold front is then expected to move through on Monday. Temperatures by Monday afternoon will be falling behind the front, and the current forecast has highs in the 50s and low 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday with mornings in the 40s. Some models have even shown the potential for the first freeze of the season Wednesday morning for parts of the Hill Country and wind chills in the 30s for our area.

This front will also bring some decent rain chances for Monday through Wednesday, but current models suggest rainfall totals will remain below a half-inch. Any rain is much needed after a dry October.

Please keep in mind that we're still several days out from this front, and there is plenty of time for the forecast to change. We have plenty of time to watch the forecast in the coming days.
