Police identify woman killed in single-car wreck early Friday morning in Port Arthur

Officials believe the car was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the fatal crash.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Police in Port Arthur are investigating the cause of a single-car wreck that claimed one life early Friday morning.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Port Arthur Police were dispatched to the 3600 block of State Highway 73 in reference to a major motor vehicle accident.

The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Kaylie Broussard, of Port Arthur.

An initial investigation suggests that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on State Highway 73, left the roadway and eventually struck a concrete support beam in between the north and southbound lanes of US 69.

Officials believe the car was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the fatal crash, according to Justice of the Peace Mark DeRouen.

No other passengers were in the car, and no other injuries have been reported.

From a Port Arthur Police Department press release:

On 12/10/21 at approximately 1:38 am, Port Arthur Police Officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of SH 73, in reference to a major motor vehicle accident.  Officers arrived on scene and located a vehicle that struck a concrete support beam and the driver deceased.  

 At this time, PAPD Advanced Accident Reconstruction Team arrived on scene to investigate the accident. The Investigation revealed, that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on SH 73 and left the roadway, eventually coming to a rest in between the north and southbound lanes of US 69.   

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old, Kaylie Broussard, of Port Arthur.   This accident is currently under investigation by the Advanced Accident Reconstruction Team and the Criminal Investigations Division of the Port Arthur Police Department.
