No students aboard Silsbee ISD school bus involved in wreck in north Hardin County

The bus was on its way to pick up students but was not carrying any students at the time of the wreck.

SILSBEE, Texas — Two drivers were injured Thursday morning following a wreck with a Silsbee school bus in North Hardin County.

The wreck involving a car, a pick-up and the bus, happened along FM 92 just south of Hardin-Tyler County line and troopers responded at about 6:30 a.m. according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A Silsbee Independent School District bus, empty except for its driver, was stopped along northbound FM92 with its flashing stop lights activated waiting for students to board when the wreck happened the release said.

A 2009 Toyota pickup truck followed by a 2014 Dodge passenger car was traveling south on FM92 and stopped for the bus but was rear-ended by the Dodge car according to the release.

The force of the collision caused both the car and the pickup to cross into the northbound lane striking the bus.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injures but the bus driver was not hurt the release said.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck.

At approximately 6:30a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on FM 92 in Hardin County. The crash occurred just south of the Hardin-Tyler County line and involved a Silsbee Independent School District school bus.

The preliminary DPS crash investigation indicates that a Silsbee ISD school bus was traveling northbound on FM 92. With flashing stop lights activated, the school bus was stopped waiting for children to board the bus. A 2009 Toyota pickup truck was traveling southbound on FM 92 followed by a 2014 Dodge passenger vehicle. The driver of the Toyota stopped for the school bus and was rear-ended by the Dodge. The impact caused the Dodge and the Toyota to across into the northbound traffic lane, striking the school bus.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota, 53-year-old Richard Thompson of Spurger, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, 70-year-old David Wallet of Fred, was also transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the school bus was not injured.

All information is preliminary as Troopers continue to investigate this crash.

A Silsbee ISD bus was involved in a collision on FM 92 north of Silsbee on its way to pick up students to transport to school. There were no students on the bus and the bus driver is reported to be safe and in good condition. More information will be shared later as the incident is investigated.
